Two New DoTA2 events announced by Valve for 2021!

May 15, 2021

The events to run on either ends of The International 2021.

After Valve’s tragic cancellation of Battle Pass for 2021 earlier this week, fans have some exciting content by Valve to look forward to this year. Valve has announced two new events to happen before and after The International 2021. The International this year will happen between the 5th and 15th August in Stockholm, Sweden. This will be the second time DoTA’s The International will be held in Europe, after the first was held in Cologne, Germany.

Last year, Valve had accumulated over $40 million in its prize pool for The International, through its Battle Pass sales. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the event had to be called off which led to the prize pool raised to remain unclaimed. This is the main reason for the Battle Pass crowdfunding to be called off for this year.

With the return of The International in 2021, Valve, in a blog post, also announced two events to take place on either side of the main event, one before and one after it.

A lot of speculation has gone into this and claims have risen that the first special event might be the rumoured Greeviling Event. There were a few leaks in the past that showed a secret addition of Greeviling game files to DoTA2 by Valve.

The Greeviling event was first released in 2012 as part of the Frostivus event. Valve has recycled old events before. Diretide, released last year, was an old event first released in 2012 and 2013.

The blog post also states that a second event is scheduled for after The International ends. As of this moment, no leaks have been found in the game files as to what that second event might be.

The community is also eagerly awaiting The Spectre Arcana which is long overdue.
