The acquisition also brought the launch of the Esports Arena by MPL

Mobile Premiere League or MPL, an esports and skill gaming platform has announced that it has acquired the esports gaming platform, GamingMonk. While the financials of the acquisition remain undisclosed, MPL has stated that it has absorbed the entire team of GamingMonk.

GamingMonk is known to host a variety of esports tournaments across multiple platforms be it PC, Consoles, or even Mobile and have created a common platform for gamers and publishers alike in the community. They have managed an integrated ecosystem across esports, live streaming, and content discovery. Due to the above reasons, GamingMonk has managed to generate a registered userbase of 1.3 million as of April 2021.

This strong track record of GamingMonk to lead online and offline tournaments will be of paramount use to MPL to bring key national, regional, and global tournament IPs to the market. It would also allow MPL to develop a full suite of esports and broadcasting capabilities from this acquisition.

“In our mission to serve gamers in India, GamingMonk will augment our efforts in reaching our target audience and engage with our users effectively,” said Sai Srinivas, co-founder and CEO, MPL. “With the increased consumption of Esports in the last couple of years and it becoming as competitive as any other sport, it gives us immense pleasure to present our users with the best of games to play.”

“I strongly believe that our collaboration with MPL will not only help us accomplish our goal, but also transform the way every individual in our country views esports. MPL has been one of the pioneers in changing the gaming culture in Asia, and it was a no brainer for us that if there was someone who could help us reach our goal at the earliest it had to be them,” said Ashwin Haryani, co-founder, GamingMonk.

MPL have also launched the Esports Arena, aimed at bringing esports into the mainstream and to the Indian masses. The platform would host esports tournaments every fortnight each with a cash prize of around 10 lakhs. Entry for all players would be free and these tournaments would be streamed on social media as well.

MPL has worked with numerous game developers and onboarded over 70 games on its platform. It was founded in 2018 by Sai Srinivas and Shubh Malhotra.
